St.Pr.+Pr.St. First Lady
First Lady came to us after a most eventful live and we hpe she will have her final home with us. Bred in East Germany, this lovely grey mare was sold by her breeders through the Trakehner Elite Auction at Klosterhof Medingen, where she cost her new owners from Hamburg 70.000DM. At some time in the early 2000s, she was then sold to Gestüt Sommerlade, the world's biggest Trakehner farm at that time that went out of business in early 2007. During a 4 day trip to Germany in July 2007, we met this exceptional mare and were able to purchase her out of the herd at Sommerlade. First Lady remains in Germany for an early breeding in 2008 and will then join us here in Southern California.

The sire Karo As was the only approved Trakehner son of the tremendously successful TB Vollkorn xx in the breed. Vollkorn xx, at stud in the Oldenburg breeding region of Germany, has sired many outstanding daughters with surprising substance and powerful movement for half TBs, and is also ther sire of the Otto Ackermann's famous international Three Day Eventing stallion Volturno. Vollkorn's dam Vogelwarte xx was out of the dam of another highly influential TB stallion in Oldenburg: Vierzehnender xx! Karo As had very little breedings in the Trakehner world and soon left Germany for Switzerland. From his small crops, the breed got a number of outstanding mares, and we're thrilled to say First Lady is one of them. Others include Caro-Dame, the dam of the excellent stallion Connery (e.g. sire of the reserve champions Imperio and Editorial, ex Ettinger), and Fliederblüte, dam of the approved Fliedergeist.
Karo As' dam line was one of the most famous ones of the breed after WWII and was represented by a number of exceptional and very uniform, larger bodied grey mares of distinct type, all hailing from the foundation mare Kassette, a half Arabian grey mare from the main stud Trakehnen. Karo As' dam Karawane II was champion mare at the DLG show in Munich in 1976 and the National Riding Horse Show in Verden in 1983, as well as Grand Champion at the National Trakehner Mare Show in Verden 1982. Furthermore, she is also dam of the approved FEI dressage stallion Kantor II (Germany and USA). Karawane's dam Karneval, who was later exported to Castell Imperator Hof in the US, was another famous grey mare of that outstanding breeding quality that makes this family one of the most successful in the breed - to this day. Mares from this family, especially those in grey color, displayed a close to perfect merge of Arabian and Trakehner genes, and hence to this day, make excellent crosses with Arabian and TB blood. First Lady is a prime example of that type of breeding. Below are photos of Karo As, his sire Vollkorn xx, his dam Karawane II and her dam Karneval. A lecture in smart breeding decisions!

First Lady's dam Fairness was bred in East Germany and is a State Premium mare. Fairness is also a sister to the approved Friedbert, and the line further produced the stallions Freier and Freisinn. Besides First Lady, she also produced four FN registered competition horses in Germany.
Offspring
First Lady is the dam of the Level 6 show jumper Faust (Trakehner by Aspirant), the 2002 born Feine Dame IV (by Trakehner by Heldenberg) and the 2005 born Feine Art (Trakehner by Hibiskus). After the herd disperal at Gestüt Sommerlade in 2007, we were able to purchase First Lady. Feine Dame IV is now owned by Gestüt Isselhook, Frank and Inge Weisskirchen, Germany and Feine Art ist owned by Trakehner Gestüt St. Vitus, Simone Lindemeier-Trippel, Bavaria. Both daughters are up for mare inspection this summer in Germany!
